1) Tell us about your work and what drew you to it.

I took a roundabout path towards making jewelry. A few years ago, my dad was seriously ill and in the hospital in November and I was extremely busy with work. I needed to think of some kind of small holiday gift for friends. I thought of wine charms - to go with a bottle of the wine my husband and I had brought back from our honeymoon in Northern California. But the charms I saw were so expensive. So, I decided to make them while I was in the hospital waiting room. I realized that wine charms looked a lot like earrings, so I made a few pairs. Of course, then I needed to make a necklace to go with them. So, it was kind of an organic process and now, I love it.

2) What is most enjoyable about your work?

I love the creative process. I especially love working with natural stones and silver. Silver is like a blank canvas to me - it goes with everything. The fun part is bringing home some new gemstones and experimenting with new combinations of stones and glass and silver. Also, learning a new technique is great fun. I'm currently dabbling with precious metal clay and wire wrapping - the possibilities are endless.

3) What is your biggest challenge?

My biggest challenge is finding enough time to work on my jewelry and my store. Like most Etsians, I have a day job and other responsibilities, so sometimes just carving out some creating time is very challenging.

4) How are you inspired?

I'm inspired by the materials and colors of the stones. There is so much beauty in the stones themselves and my inspiration is figuring out a new or better way to bring out the beauty in the stones or glass in my jewelry.

5) Apart from creating, what are you passionate about?

I am a sports freak. I love to watch almost any kind of competition, hopefully involving a ball of some kind. I'm very fortunate to live in a city with a major university. There are more options for watching/ playing almost any kind of sport. I also love animals in general and my dog and cats in particular. I'm very excited about training my German Shepherd, Kaiser, to compete in agility. I can combine my love for sports with an activity with my dog. The best of all possible worlds!

6) What is something you've always wanted to try, but haven't yet?

I've always wanted to try snorkeling. I'm not a really strong swimmer so it's a little intimidating but the photos you see are incredible.

7) What is your most cherished handmade item?

My husband's grandmother gave us one of her paintings as a wedding gift. As she passed away a few months after the wedding, it is that much more special.

8) Is there any rule you can't help but break?

I can't follow the directions in a recipe. I always have to change something. Sometimes the results are good, and sometimes not so much. : )

9) What could you never live without?

Books. I have loved books since the day I got my first library card in second grade. My bookshelves are always overflowing.

10) Tell us your top five!

It's always changing. I recently saw The Lives of Others - what a fascinating movie. I love to see movies or read books that make me think about things in a different way.

11) Besides Etsy, where can your work be found?

Nowhere yet. I'm working on the possibility of getting my jewelry in a local shop or two. I'll post the details in my Etsy shop announcement and on the Facebook page I'm working on.

12) Do you have any current or ongoing specials?

I offer a 10% discount when you follow me on Twitter.

I also have a 10% discount for all return customers with a coupon code they receive after purchase.

13) Do you have any upcoming shows?

I hope to be participating in two shows in November. One in Madison, Wisconsin and one in Mount Horeb, Wisconsin. Check my store announcement in the next month for details.
